Telematics Wireless's T alking Tag is a vehicle windshield-mounted tag that can convey audible speech to the driver. The tag has a store of approximately 100 voice prompts, such as “Wait”. These may be selected by an application for articulation in any sequence to generate apt, attention-drawing, spoken-message sentences.The Talking Tag is compatible with standard ETC, CVO and HOT tags used in applications that use ASTM v6 Readers. The activation of any sentence is triggered by one of the Telematics Wireless ASTM-compatible readers: roadside reader , mini-reader , solar powered reader or handheld reader.
The speech feature may be used in applications such as highway safety, warehouse logistics management, and others. For promoting highway safety, a Telematics Wireless reader is installed either in a fixed or movable fashion near a location on a highway known for its hazardous conditions. The reader is connected to a control center by a standard communications link. Whenever a hazardous condition develops, the control center commands the reader to send safety warning voice announcements to all Talking Tags that pass it, cautioning drivers in those vehicles as to the potential danger , e.g. “Caution – limited visibility ahead”.
In the warehouse logistics management application, a reader is installed at the warehouse gate. As a truck approaches the gate, the reader detects the vehicle’s identity from its windshield- mounted tag and communicates this to the warehouse control center . The control center decides which loading/unloading dock the truck should approach and sends a message to the reader with this information. The reader sends a voice announcement command to the Talking Tag directing the driver to the right dock - “Please approach dock number 7”, for example.
